CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES (Updated 6.10.09)

Heart of the Valley Bike Ride:

August 8th, 2009, come and volunteer at Okemo Mountain Resort. We need volunteers to direct race traffic, help feed the racers, help collect registration forms; issue and record rider identification numbers, and direct them to the start area. We also need people to drive the SAG Wagons, these people will drive vehicles along the course assisting riders who need help. For more information, click here.

If you would like to volunteer at the Heart of the Valley Ride, please contact the Upper Valley United Way at
603.448.2766 or email us at volunteer@uvuw.org.

Weatherization:
Volunteer weatherization teams are needed right now to help us get our neighbors ready for winter. Weatherization can involve helping to wrap windows, reinforcing insulation and caulk cracks.  It can even be as simple as helping someone to take out an air conditioner or lower their storm windows!

Contact:
If you would like to help with weatherization please call COVER Home Repair and talk to Daniel at 802.296.7241 or Upper Valley United Way and talk to Leah at 603.448.2766 or email
volunteer@uvuw.org

Earned Income Tax Credit Screeners:
Help people get the money they've earned!  Vermont and New Hampshire are in the bottom quarter of states in their utilization of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).  You could help United Way to screen possible recipients of this credit and give them information about where they can get help with their taxes.

The tax credit can be thousands of dollars and you can file for the prior two years tax returns if you haven't filed in the past.  This extra cash will help many people cover their high heating fuel bills in the beginning of 2009.

Contact:
If you'd like to help call Upper Valley United Way at 603.448.2766 or email
volunteer@uvuw.org, the volunteering will take place in January and February of 2009 (a great opportunity after the busy holiday season!).

211 Ambassadors:
Volunteering for United Way as a 2-1-1 Ambassador for the Day.  Helping us spread the word about this VT and NH statewide United Way community service.

Volunteers interested in helping to spread the word about 2-1-1 in their local community can click here to review the attached information to understand how they can help.

Contact:
Volunteers should call Leah at 603.448.2766 or email
volunteer@uvuw.org to get 211 handouts and a LIVE UNITED t-shirt.

Food Drives, Clothing or Holiday drives:
If you would like to have some kind of drive at your workplace to support people in need we will help you to find an appropriate organization to work with to contribute your collected goods.  This winter people will need to keep their homes cooler so a sweater drive can help keep people warm!  Contact Upper Valley United Way to find an organization to work with on your drive!

United Ways of New Hampshire and United Ways of Vermont want to help you find a volunteer opportunity. If you do not find a volunteer opportunity using the link below, please check back in the future.
